Decoding Blaq is inspired by the writings of anti-apartheid struggle hero Bantu Stephen Biko, and the philosophy of the Black Consciousness Movement. The podcast seeks to elevate the envisaged self, through conversations centered around conquering the struggles in our lifetime and drawing strength from both those who have gone before us and those around us.
The conversations are focused on unpacking the resilience, tenacity, and the unfailing courage of a people who are built to swim against a tide that should drown them.
Decoding Blaq is about you and it’s about me. We are black, we are beautiful, and we are powerful!
The philosophy expresses group pride and the determination by the blacks to rise and attain the envisaged self. At the heart of this kind of thinking is the realization by the blacks that the most potent weapon in the hands of the oppressor is the mind of the oppressed.
Black consciousness therefore takes cognisance of the deliberateness of God’s plan in creating black people Black. It seeks to infuse the black community with a new-found pride in themselves, their efforts, their value systems, their culture, their religion, and their outlook on life- Steve Biko
